Organized by
"Bulgaria - GMO Free Zone" Coalition
On 25.03.2004 (Thursday) between 14.00 and 15.30 p.m. in front of the National Parliament in Sofia, a demonstration opposing the Draft Law on Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs), which allows their release in the environment and market in Bulgaria, will be held.
The organizers of the demonstration, "Bulgaria - GMO Free Zone" Coalition, insist that the draft is imperfect and that its many gaps could lead to risks and dangers for the people and environment. They demand a moratorium on the release of GMOs in Bulgaria. The Coalition has prepared a declaration with arguments about the risks which GMO pose for the environment and human health.
The demonstrators are worried about the consequences of the liberalization of GMOs for the agriculture, environment, health and social and economic life in the country and insist that the law protects Bulgarian citizens and nature, rather than multinational business interests.
